Importance of seller registration on eBay

Eligibility criteria for eBay seller registration

Please note that you can only sell as a “Business Seller” from India. So, while completing the registration process make sure you select the option of “Business Account”. There are certain mandatory documents that you need to possess to start exports on eBay from India:

  • Permanent Account Number (PAN)
  • Goods and Services Tax Identification Number (GSTIN
  • Importer Exporter Code (IEC)

Apart from the above, you will also need to create and connect a Payoneer Account with your eBay account to receive the payments for your transactions on eBay. For this, it is mandatory that you have valid proof of identity and proof of address.

Create An eBay Account

Once you have filled in your contact and business information, it’s time to create your eBay  business account. 

  • When you click on “Next” after completing step 1, you will be re-directed to a form to create your eBay account.
  • Make sure you select the account type as “Business Account”
  • Fill in your information in the registration form. 
  • Select your business location as “India”.
  • Click on “Register” to receive the six-digit security code on your registered email address.
  • Enter the security code and click on “Verify”
  • Congratulations! Your eBay account has been created successfully. 
  • You can choose to add a “Username” or skip this step and click on “Continue”.

Connect A Payoneer Account

Now that your eBay account has been created, it’s time to set up your selling account and your Payoneer account. If you don’t have an existing Payoneer account, we’ve listed the steps to obtain a Payoneer account below. Keep reading. 

Note: In case you drop off at any page, follow these steps:

  • Go to www.ebay.com
  • Sign-in with your registered eBay email address/user id and password
  • Select “Selling” from the drop-down options available under “My eBay” on the top right hand corner of the eBay page
  • You will get back on track for your seller registration

First, you need to connect your eBay account to a Payoneer account. After clicking on the “Get Started” button, you will be redirected to the next page to verify your phone number.

  • Select the phone country code as “+91 India”
  • Enter your Business Phone Number and click on “Text Me”
  • You will receive a security code on the Business Phone Number you have provided 
  • Enter the security code in the space provided and click on “Continue”

On the next page, you will need to either: 

Link your existing Payoneer account with your eBay account by clicking on “Yes, sign in”

OR

Create a new Payoneer account to link with your eBay account by clicking on “No, create one”

(Skip this step if you have an existing Payoneer account)

  • On the Payoneer sign-in page, select your type of business as “Company” and enter your business details.  The “Business Entity” can be “Sole Proprietor, Company /Business, Partnership Firm, Trust & Foundation, Limited liability partnership(LLP)” as available in the drop-down list

Sync your eBay and Payoneer Profiles

Now it’s time to get your eBay and Payoneer profiles synced.

  • Click on “Edit” to update your billing address

Please note that card details are confidential. No employee from eBay or its authorized service provider will ever ask for these details. Do not disclose your card details to anyone for security purposes.

In the same step, you will now need to add your tax (GSTIN) and IEC information.

  • If you don’t have the latest GSTIN & IEC certificate, you can download from the government portals now
  • Make sure you are uploading the original and not scanned, edited or photo versions of the documents
  • Allowed formats are: jpeg, jpg, pdf, png
  • Max. size: 10 MB

Once your registration information has been submitted, you need to now  complete the Payoneer document verification. You will be notified by Payoneer about this process through an email on the email address you have provided.

Payoneer Know Your Customer (“KYC”) Document Hygiene Checklist

The second last step of eBay seller registration process is to complete the Payoneer document verification.  However, at times this process may get delayed due to various factors.

Here are some best practices that you should follow to ensure a hassle-free verification process.

When submitting a proof of identity:

Good practice:

Make sure the PAN card/passport is in the authorized representative’s name only

While submitting  Aadhaar , make sure the front and the back side of the card is printed on the same page

Always submit a colour copy of the original document wherein the details are clearly legible

If the identity proof has an expiration date, it should be clearly displayed

While uploading – the selfie image, make sure – authorized representative’s face is clearly visible holding the proof of identity in one hand and the other hand should hold a handwritten piece of paper containing the current date in the MM/DD/YYYY format

Always use a flat color background (e.g. a white wall) for better image clarity

Please avoid:

Submitting photocopy or scanned or digital copy of the ID  

Cropping the edges and submitting unclear/blurry/low quality images

Keeping the flash on or covering the information while taking photos using mobile phones

Submitting expired/cut/torn documents

When submitting a proof of address:

Good practice:

Make sure the bank statement and utility bill is of the authorized representative

Authorized representative’s address details match the bank statement

Submit bank statement/utility bill i.e. of the last 3 months containing the owner’s name and the exact address used when registering on Payoneer

Bank statement should be in PDF format only and of the complete month  

In case of collecting the bank statement printout directly from bank  then the scanned PDF copy should be duly signed and stamped by the bank

In case the bank clarifies on any difference in information, provide the bank’s clarification letter written on the bank’s letter head duly stamped and signed

Rental agreement needs to contain the owner’s name and exact address used when registering to Payoneer, containing the rental period

Please avoid:

Submitting bank statement of company or business

Uploading a password protected bank statement pdf

Submitting documents that have a different address other than the address used when registering on Payoneer

Rental agreements, lease agreement, leave and license agreement older than 11 months  

Providing copy of bank passbooks or cancelled cheques as proof of address
